Sony Handycam DCR-DVD710E

The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD710E is a good camcorder for the DVD video junkies. Its ease of use will blow you over, even though the still photos it takes are nothing to write home about.

Sony's 2009 camcorder model DCR-DVD710E is easily one of the best video cameras I have laid my hands on. The 710E impresses with its easy functions and controls.

To begin with, in the DCR 710 E, the recording media is Hybrid that is DVD and Memory Stick. I hope these days most of us know about DVD’s and their sizes. I have mini-DVD 2 rewritable discs of 1.4 GB and a 4GB Transend Memory stick. You can write upto 1 hr in Memory stick and 30 mins in each mini-DVD (in High Quality mode, you can record longer time in low or medium quality).

We can select the media on which you want to write through selecting ‘Media Format’ using Home button on LCD Screen. There it self we can select the quality of the ‘video’.

I had taken videos of my Son on from his 1st day through 1st birth day and still continuing that. My hard disk is filled up with his videos inclding 11th day function, Naming Ceremony, Play time, while he is crawling, while started walking, when we went for a trip,…ahhh still there is much bigger list J

The USP of the Sony DVD DCR 710E, is having 25X optical zoom, much higher than most of the camcorders from Sony. The digital zoom is a huge 2000X, though needless to say, the clarity goes down as you zoom in. I bought tripod along with my camcorder which enables me to take very nice videos without the camcorder shaking. The RECORD button, zoom lever and OFF-ON button are conveniently located, just like in all other Sony camcorder models.

Special Features:

Dolby® Digital 5.1 Creator

Capture audio from all directions and encode it in real-time to create 5.1ch. Surround Sound. This means you can sit back and let Sony’s Handycam® camcorders deliver a cinematic theatre experience right in the comfort of your living room.

Touch-Panel

Activate camera features such as video playback controls, Program AE, effects mode, search and title entry by a simple touch on the generously sized LCD screen. For added protection, the touch panel is specially treated to prevent against dirt and unwanted fingerprints.

Accessories:

Carrying Case:

LCS-X10 Offering great protection in a small size, this chic looking case is ideal for those who prefer to travel unencumbered.

• Made of stain resistant nylon
• Includes a padded shoulder strap

Tripod

Imagine the creative shots you can take when you stow along a Sony tripod. Simply mount your Sony digital imaging product (check for compatibility) on one of these extremely portable tripods.

• Adjustable height and three-way head allow for creative camera angles
• Quick-release head allows you to remove your camera quickly and easily
• Lightweight design makes it perfect for travel

Another important part for this handycam is battery. You can see the remaining battery time on the top of the screen. But note that this is only indicative. The batter life is dependent on how you are using zoom function regularly or start and stop several times in between.

You can take videos in 2 formats either 4:3 or 16:9. Using Sony DVD DCR 710E handycam, like all other camcorders, you can take still photos as well as videos. The camera quality is just 1 mega pixel. So you can imagine the quality. That is only 8600 x 600 sixe photographs.

You’ll get the Sony DVD DCR 710E manual, which is terrible for beginners. I hope most of the Handycam users are typically not techies. They are ordinary people who will use the handycam to shoot their family videos, kids walking and dogs barking. The manual is ideal for technical people. There is absolutely no sequence to its content and jumps from page to page. It is ideal for someone who already knows all about handycam operation, DVD technologies and recording formats. I haven’t much struggled with the manual because I know about this before. You’ll get training videos along with the installation CD which will guide you how to use the handycam with sample videos.

The picture motion browser software is not much user friendly but it will do for all the basic editing and Burning your videos to disc.

I bought it for Rs: 22,700 (including Memory Stick, 3 RW DVD’s, Carrying Case and Tripod) Overall, the Sony Handycam DVD DCR 710E is a loveable camcorder if you want the recording on a DVD and Memory Stick.
